What To Do With Your Kids When NYC Schools Are Closed Thursday

NEW YORK CITY — The city's public school students are off Thursday for the Department of Education's Chancellor's Conference Day — meaning parents and caregivers will be looking for activities to entertain their kids.

DNAinfo New York rounded up some child-friendly events taking place across the five boroughs to keep you and your little ones busy until classes resume on Friday.

MANHATTAN

Frank Lloyd Wright's Birthday
Where: Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, 1071 5th Ave., UES
Teens will appreciate this artsy outing at the museum, where admission is just $1.50 for the day to celebrate the famous architect's 150th birthday.

NYPL Summer Reading Kickoff
Where: Harlem Branch Library, 9 West 124th St.
Celebrate the start of the summer reading season with this celebration from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. which will include music, face painting, author visits and drag queen storytime.

The Princess, The Emperor and The Duck
Where: Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre, Central Park, 79th Street and West Drive
This play retells famous fairy tales using marionettes. Shows are at 10:30 a.m. and noon; tickets are $8 to $12.

QUEENS

► Anniversary Day Camp
Where: Gantry Kids, 10-19 46th Rd., Long Island City
This CrossFit gym has a special fitness program for children and will be offering a day camp Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participation is $125.

Astoria Park Carnival
Where:
Parking lot at Astoria Park, 19th Street and Astoria Park South, Astoria
This annual carnival will kick off at 4 p.m. and includes rides, games and food.

Balloon Show
Where: Queens Library Central Branch, 89-11 Merrick Blvd., Jamaica
"Nick the Balloonatic" will sculpt balloon animals and other creations during this free show from 2 to 3 p.m.

BROOKLYN

► Chancellor's Day
Where: Prospect Park
The Parks Department will host family-friendly activities between 12 and 4 p.m. including bird games, potato sack races and nature tours. Details can be found here.

► Free Hours at the Brooklyn Children's Museum
Where:
Brooklyn Children's Museum, 145 Brooklyn Ave., Crown Heights
On Thursdays from 2 to 6 p.m., admission is waived for all visitors to the Brooklyn Children's Museum.

Outdoor Rock Climbing
Where:
DUMBO Boulders, 99 Plymouth St., Brooklyn Bridge Park
Kids aged 6 and up can try rock climbing at the city's only outdoor facility. Day-passes are $9 and include a shoe rental.

Robot Workshop
Where: Brooklyn Robot Foundry, sites in Gowanus and South Slope (plus TriBeCa and The UES)
Kids will learn to make a swimming robot and a robot lighthouse. Participants should register beforehand and can find more info on Brooklyn Robot Foundry's website.

BRONX

► Field Day
Where: Williamsburg Oval, 3225 Reservoir Oval East, Norwood
Kids ages 6 to 13 are invited to participate in a day of games like capture the flag, soccer and obstacle courses.

STATEN ISLAND

► Big Top Science
Where: South Beach Library, 21-25 Robin Rd., Arrochar
The library will present chemistry and physics demos starting at 3 p.m. for kids ages 5 and up.
