CHELSEA — A mental health clinic with a focus on people affected by HIV/AIDS opened this week on West 33rd Street.
Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC) on Tuesday opened the doors to its new Carl Jacobs Mental Health Clinic at its headquarters at 446 W. 33rd St., near 10th Avenue, the organization said in a release.
The clinic “will be open to New York adults of all sexual orientations, gender identities and income levels, regardless of whether one is HIV positive or HIV negative as a safe and nonjudgmental environment equipped to address the emotional and psychological needs of all people,” the release said.
Patients with Medicaid, Medicare and private insurance can access the clinic’s range of services, but those without insurance will also be able to access services on a sliding fee scale.
“We know that untreated mental health issues are a driver of the HIV/AIDS epidemic,” GMHC’s CEO Kelsey Louie said.
The new clinic will allow the agency to “incorporate lifesaving mental health counseling and treatment into [its] comprehensive service delivery model while removing socioeconomic barriers to care,” he added.
