THE BRONX — A man suspected of punching an 83-year-old man on a Longwood Street corner in broad daylight Monday fatally stabbed himself after the random assault, police said.

Anthony Conrad, 33, came up to the elderly victim as he stood at the entrance to a crosswalk near 995 Fox St. at Westchester Avenue, about 10:50 a.m. and punched him in the face, NYPD officials said.

The man tumbled to the ground and lost consciousness, suffering a cut to his forehead and breaks to his nose and face, police said.

He was treated at an area hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

Conrad later stabbed himself in the neck at his home inside 1033 Tiffany St. near East 165th Street at about 7:10 p.m., an NYPD spokeswoman said.

He was taken to Lincoln Hospital and pronounced dead.

Conrad's relatives said he suffered from bipolar disorder, NBC New York reported
