Marie Kondo approves.
Ride-sharing app Uber is offering to help you Spring clean your apartment this weekend, offering a fleet of drivers to shlep your gently-used castoffs to local Goodwill stores for free.
The annual promotion, which lasts from 10 a.m.– 4 p.m. Saturday, is first-come, first-serve and is expected to be "extremely limited."
Uber users will be able to push a button at the bottom of the app to request "GOODWILL" for pickup and a driver will come to take their bagged-up books, clothes and electronics to the thrift shop. Donors can print out their a tax-deductible receipt here.
The list of items accepted for donation is here, but no broken or large items will be accepted and no electronics with personal info on them such as cellphones and laptops will be taken.
Drivers get paid for participating in the promotion, and said they're happy to support a good cause.
"People love to give, but they don't have time to pick it up so they throw it in the garbage," said Uber driver Kamal Raouf, 50, of Corona, who has been participating in the promotion for the past three years.
"They’re just so happy to give you stuff, you’d be amazed. Bringing clothing, bringing books. it’s unbelievable ... I don’t know how to describe it. it was an amazing feeling."
