Injured 3-Year-Old Girl in Bronx May Have Been Sexually Abused, Police Say

MOTT HAVEN — A severely injured 3-year-old Bronx girl who was found limp and covered in vomit may have been the victim of sexual abuse, police said.

The girl was found around 4 a.m. on Monday morning in a first floor apartment at Betances Houses by E. 137th Street and Willis Avenue and taken to Lincoln Hospital with serious injuries, according to the NYPD.

The NYPD's Special Victims Unit and the Administration for Children's Services are investigating the case, and officers are working to determine whether the girl was the victim of sexual assault, officials said.

The girl's 32-year-old mother Stephanie Martinez told the Daily News that her daughter was not sexually abused and was hospitalized after eating somebody else's medication.

“They’re saying she got raped and that’s not what happened,” Martinez said, according to the Daily News. “I don’t know what they’re saying she got raped for.”
