13-Year-Old Girl Killed by Train While Trying to Retrieve Phone, NYPD Says

QUEENS — A 13-year-old girl was fatally struck by an R train when she went to get her phone which had fallen on the tracks, but couldn't climb back onto the platform in Rego Park on Sunday afternoon, police said.

Dina Kadribasic jumped onto the tracks of the 63rd Drive - Rego Park station, near Queens Boulevard, about 3:50 p.m., but then tried to scramble out of the way of an oncoming R train, an NYPD spokesman said.

She tried to climb back onto the platform, but couldn't, officials said.

Kadribasic, who lived in Rego Park, was pronounced dead at Elmhurst Hospital, police said.
