Woman Who 'Hates Asians' Hits Bus Rider With Umbrella in Flushing: NYPD

QUEENS — A bus rider said she "hated Asians" before smacking another straphanger on the head with an umbrella in what police are investigating as a hate crime in Flushing, police said.

The woman, who can be seen in a photo released by police Wednesday, attacked the 68-year-old man on the Q20 about 11:30 a.m. on March 7, police said.

It wasn't immediately clear what provoked the attack.

The victim suffered pain to his head, but did not go to a hospital, police said.

The suspect, who wore a red baseball cap and a coat, fled the bus at Main Street and Kissena Boulevard, police said.

It wasn't immediately clear why it took police so long to release information about the attack.

The NYPD's Hate Crime Task Force is investigating the incident.
