QUEENS — A man posing as a customer stole $10,000 worth of gold bracelets from a Jamaica jewelry store last week, police and sources said.
The suspect walked into Golden City Jewelers at 159-23 Jamaica Ave. on March 17 around 2:30 p.m., and told an employee he had an item on layaway, officials said.
When the 56-year-old clerk went to the back of the store to check information on that transaction, the man leaned over the counter and snatched six gold bracelets from a display case before running out of the store, located across the street from Jamaica Multiplex Cinemas, police said.
The suspect, described as approximately 20 years old and 5-foot-8-inches tall, fled westbound on Jamaica Avenue, authorities said.
He was last seen wearing a dark colored jacket, black pants and black and white sneakers. He also carried a light colored backpack, police said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
