Fire Breaks Out at Empire State Building, FDNY Says

MANHATTAN — A fire broke out at the Empire State Building Friday afternoon, the FDNY said.

The blaze started in the basement of a business located inside the iconic skyscraper, at 350 Fifth Ave, about 2:22 p.m., officials said.

About 60 firefighters responded to the scene, bringing the blaze under control at 4:23 p.m., an FDNY spokeswoman said.

There were no injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation. 

 

The City's Office of Emergency Management tweeted out that Fifth Avenue was closed between West 32nd Street and West 34th Street around 3:28 p.m. By 4:46 p.m., the avenue had reopened.
