UPPER WEST SIDE — Four people were hurt — including two children — when a fire erupted inside a West 61st Street apartment Thursday morning, an FDNY spokesman said.

The flames erupted in a first-floor apartment of 249 W. 61st St., near Amsterdam Avenue, about 5:35 a.m., the spokesman said.

"I woke up around 5:30 and smelled smoke, so I got my kids up, said, 'Get dressed!' But we stayed put because when we opened the door, smoke came in," said fifth-floor tenant, Steven Rivera.

The four people were all treated at New York-Presbyterian hospital for minor injuries, officials said.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control by 6:20 a.m., officials said.

Fire marshals will determine what sparked the fire, officials said.
