MIDTOWN — Who says bank robbers have to avoid drawing attention to themselves to be successful?

A bank robber wearing a knitted hat walked into a Chase Bank at 615 Fifth Ave. between 49th and 50th streets roughly 2 p.m., approached the teller’s window and began banging on it and demanding money, police said.

The teller complied, forking over an undetermined amount of cash, police said.

The robber was last seen wearing a black coat, police said.
