UPPER EAST SIDE — Police released a photo of a man they say punched a straphanger in the face before fleeing on the 4 train in December.
On Wednesday, the NYPD put out a request for help in identifying the man from an incident on Dec. 15. It was unclear why they waited several months before releasing the information.
Just after 3 p.m. on Dec. 15, the unknown man got into a verbal argument with a 29-year-old man on the northbound platform at the Lexington Avenue/59th Street station. The man punched the 29-year-old in the face before getting on the 4 train, police said.
The victim was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital with a cut to his mouth, they added.
Police described the suspect as a man, roughly 35 to 40 years old, standing 6 feet tall, and weighing roughly 200 pounds. He was last seen in a brown jacket.
