MANHATTAN — A thief plucked $10 from the wallet of a young man who agreed to give him some change — then stole another $20 when he approached the victim a second time and pretended he was going to give the money back, police said.

The suspect approached the 19-year-old victim as he got off a train at the 145th Street Station at St. Nicholas Avenue about 2:45 p.m. on Feb. 6 and asked him for some change, NYPD officials said. The station serves the A/C and B/D trains, but police did not say which train he exited.

The victim pulled open his wallet, but then the suspect reached in to snatch a Hamilton and walked away, police said.

When the victim exited the station, the suspect walked up to him and said he'd give the money back, but instead snatched $20 when the victim opened his wallet again, police said.

The suspect also threatened to hurt the victim, according to authorities.

The suspect, who was described as being between 19 and 22 years old, hadn't been arrested as of Wednesday morning, police said.

He was last seen in a white shirt, dark blue jeans and a black skull cap, police said.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
