CHELSEA — A developer plans to raze a former art gallery near the High Line to make way for an 11-story condo building.
DDG Partners last week filed for a permit to demolish the former Anton Kern Gallery at 532 W. 20th St., between 10th and 11th avenues, city Department of Buildings records show.
The gallery has vacated the one-story building and is currently in the process of moving to a new space in Midtown, its website says.
DDG shelled out $24.25 million for the property back in 2014 and filed plans for the 11-story building last spring, YIMBY reported. However, the city has yet to approve that plan or the demolition permit, records show.
The nine-unit condominium will feature private parking, a bicycle storage room, a “landscaped” roof and terraces, and private elevator access for some apartments, according to DDG’s website.
“Currently a gallery, 532 West 20th provides a unique opportunity to design and develop one-of-a-kind full-floor and duplex custom homes, many with private outdoor space and views of Midtown Manhattan, the Hudson River and beyond,” the website says.
DDG and a representative for the Anton Kern Gallery didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment Thursday.
