BROOKLYN — The death of a 1-month-old girl who was found unconscious and covered in bruises in her Bedford-Stuyvesant home las year was ruled a homicide Tuesday, NYPD officials said.
Nichelle Waring was found unconscious in her crib in her family's Hancock Street apartment, near Malcolm X Boulevard, about 1:40 p.m. June 26, police said.
Nichelle's mother told investigators that she put the baby in her crib and walked away only to return and find the girl unconscious, an NYPD spokesman said.
She was pronounced dead at Woodhull Hospital, but her death wasn't ruled a homicide until this week, officials said.
An NYPD spokesman said Tuesday that her injuries were the result of a beating.
There were no immediate arrests, police said.
Investigators were questioning Nichelle's 22-year-old father and mother, whose identities weren't immediately released, police said.
