FINANCIAL DISTRICT — Renderings for luxury tower 45 Park Place were released Wednesday, on a teaser site for the 43-story skyscraper that will sit next to a long planned Islamic center.
The building's developer, Sharif El-Gamal, once envisioned a $100 million, 13-story glass Islamic center at 45-51 Park Place, without a condo tower.
Several years ago, amidst controversy and lack of funds, El-Gamal scaled back plans for the Islamic Center, called Park51, and referred to as the "Ground Zero mosque" because of its proximity to the World Trade Center. Instead, he decided to build a luxury condo tower at 45 Park Place, and a three-story Islamic museum and cultural center next door, at 51 Park Place.
The 50-unit condo building, which began construction this summer, appears to feature apartments with ceiling to floor windows, and panoramic views.
The images also show the building's airy lobby, and one of its amenities, an indoor pool.
The building's teaser site describes the tower as "where the new Downtown meets Tribeca."
The skyscraper began construction over the summer. The Real Deal first reported the building's renderings.
