QUEENS — A derailed train in Jamaica sparked delays across all but one LIRR line for the Wednesday morning and evening rush, officials said.
The non-passenger train derailed in the Jamaica Station about 5:11 a.m., according to the MTA and Notify NYC. Workers were still trying to re-rail the train after 4 p.m., officials said.
Service was eventually restored during the morning, but commuters experienced delays "of at least 60 minutes" and cancellations. Two tracks at Jamaica remained out of service for evening rush, leading to the cancellation of eight trains.
On the Babylon Branch, the 4:03 p.m., 4:34 p.m., 4:57 p.m., 5:19 p.m., 6:05 p.m. and 6:33 p.m. trains from Penn Station were all canceled.
On the Oyster Bay branch the 6 p.m. from Jamaica was suspended and on the Port Jefferson branch the 6:30 p.m. from Penn Station.
Trains that depart within 10 minutes of the canceled trains added stops to help accommodate extra riders.
Commuters were advised to listen to announcements, especially if they transfer trains at Jamaica, as transfers could take place on tracks that are different than usual.
