Fifty students accepted into the GOALS for Girls program, which runs from July 10 to Aug. 18, will conduct science experiments, take part in group research projects and go on scientific field trips, among other activities, the museum's website said.
In the past, students have taken trips to the Alley Pond Park Adventure Course, Columbia University’s astrophysics department and Rockefeller University’s Laboratory of DNA Replication.
“Intrepid Museum educators, together with educational institutions and invited guests, give students a new, exciting perspective on STEM and the world around them through off-ship and on-ship workshops and demonstrations,” the museum said.
The program focuses on earth science, aerospace science and engineering, culminating with an overnight stay aboard the Intrepid.
The program is accepting applications from current eighth- and ninth-graders throughout the five boroughs until March 20.
More information about the application process can be found on the museum’s website.
