PARK SLOPE — Flatbush Farm, a bar and restaurant open for more than a decade, will close later this month, its owner announced.
The local hangout known for its relaxed vibe, live music and roomy backyard will close Feb. 25, owner Damon Gorton said in a letter posted to Facebook.
"It is with sadness and a hearty thank you that we announced that Flatbush Farm and Barn will be closing," read the letter, which was posted Feb. 1 and signed by Gorton and "the Farmers."
It’s unclear why the spot is closing its doors. Somewhat cryptically, the announcement said "the why" of the closing is "complex and perhaps left said in farm metaphor: floods, pests, drought, land use."
Inquiries by phone and emails to the bar were not immediately returned Monday.
Flatbush Farm has been open for 11 years at 76 St. Marks Ave. on the border of Park Slope and Prospect Heights. It is survived by Gorton’s more recent venture, the bar and restaurant Sisters in Clinton Hill, which will be open "for years to come," the letter said.
"We thank you for all the laughter, the food, the drinks, the music and most of all your beautiful company. We will miss farming with you," the announcement said.
The Labour Day Knights jazz band, who are also regulars at the restaurant, will play a goodbye concert at Flatbush Farm this Sunday at 8:30 p.m. "for one more dance party before closing," their Facebook event says. The event is free and open the public.
