LOWER EAST SIDE — Twenty-four-hour diner Sugar Cafe will shutter on Sunday, according to several employees.

The neighborhood mainstay at 200 Allen St., which serves up classic diner fare and confections, will wind down service within the next week and will serve its last cup of coffee on Feb. 5.

Bowery Boogie first published rumors of the closure, attributed to an anonymous tipster, who blamed the farewell on a severe rent hike.

Three employees confirmed the rumor to DNAinfo New York on Tuesday, though they were unable to state the reason for the closure and declined to comment.

The restaurant's owner could not immediately be reached. The building's landlord, Serge Hoyda, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
