FRESH MEADOWS — A local assemblywoman has promised to introduce a bill that would block companies working on President Donald Trump's proposed border wall from doing business with New York State — a "symbolic first step" against "hateful rhetoric," she said.
Assemblywoman Nily Rozic, whose district includes Fresh Meadows, Kew Gardens Hills and parts of Bayside and Flushing, said she first thought about the bill during the 2016 presidential campaign.
Under the proposed law, any companies working on the anticipated $15 to $25 billion wall would be barred from state contracts. The state would also not invest in those companies.
As an assemblywoman, she said she felt there were "various ways of pushing back rhetoric."
"I feel this bill is one important step," she said.
The bill will be introduced in the legislature this week.
