Large Fire Rips Through Commercial Building in Flushing

QUEENS — A large fire ripped through a commercial building on Roosevelt Avenue in the heart of Flushing Wednesday afternoon.

The blaze started in a Chinese food restaurant at 135-42 Roosevelt Ave. near Main Street at about 12:22 p.m., an FDNY spokesman said, and wasn't under control until 6:12 p.m.  

More than 130 emergency responders were at the scene and two firefighters suffered minor injuries, but did not need to go to the hospital, according to fire officials. 

Roosevelt Avenue was shut down near Main Street while firefighters battled the blaze, the Flushing Business Improvement District said in a statement.

7 train service was also disrupted due to the fire, according to the MTA. Riders could check the agency's website for updates

There was no immediate information on what started the blaze.
