VIDEO: Thief Tackles and Beats Man in Lobby of His Home, NYPD Says

THE BRONX — An elderly man was tackled to the ground and then beaten by a thief who stole $220 before fleeing the scene Thursday night, NYPD officials said.

The 79-year-old man, whose name wasn't immediately released, was in the vestibule of his building near Dekalb Avenue and East 213rd Street about 7:15 p.m. when a man came from behind to put him in a headlock, police said.

Video released Friday morning shows the thief toss the elderly man to the ground and then beat him for about 20 seconds.

The suspect stole the victim's wallet with $220 and cellphone, police said.

The man was treated for serious injuries to his face at Jacobi Hospital, police said.

The suspect fled and hadn't been arrested as of Friday morning, police said.

He was last seen wearing a black ski jacket, a dark hoodie, a dark baseball cap, red pants, a camouflage backpack with black and white sneakers, police said.
