LOWER EAST SIDE — A man who broke into an East Broadway apartment early Tuesday morning was scared off by the screams of a woman who socked him on the arm as he fled, police said.
The resident of the apartment near Pike Street, a 43-year-old man, told police he was awoken at 3:15 a.m. by the sound of his front door opening.
When he saw a man standing in the hallway, his girlfriend screamed and the intruder immediately ran out the door and down the building's stairs, according to a police report.
The victim's girlfriend hit the would-be burglar on the arm as he fled, police said.
The intruder is described as a man standing about 5-feet-4-inches tall and weighing around 130 pounds, according to a police report.
Police are still investigating the break-in and no arrests have been made.
