THE BRONX — Two firefighters were injured while battling a blaze at a Port Morris recycling facility Wednesday that took 7 hours to bring under control, FDNY officials said.

The fire broke out just minutes after midnight at 891 E. 135th St., near Walnut Avenue, a spokesman said.

The fire crept through the heaps of recycling refuse, forcing the FDNY to bring in heavy machinery to dig through it all and find the flames, the FDNY spokesman said.

Ultimately, 198 firefighters helped bring it under control by 7:42 a.m., officials said.

Two firefighters were treated for minor injuries, officials said.

Fire marshals will determine what sparked the blaze, the spokesman said.
