EAST HARLEM — A bodega worker attacked a customer with a baseball bat after the shopper complained about the quality of cigarettes he purchased, the NYPD said.
The 31-year-old man walked into LX Deli at 2056 Lexington Avenue on Dec. 14 around 5:30 p.m. and purchases a pack of cigarettes, the police said.
The customer returned to the store sometime later, telling the bodega worker that the quality of the cigarettes was bad and asking for a new pack.
The clerk became irate and struck the customer multiple times with the bat, police said. The shopper suffered injuries to his shoulder, right leg and calf.
The victim walked to Mount Sinai to get treatment.
There had not been any arrests made as of Friday afternoon, police said.
A similar incident happened at the same bodega last month when a woman smashed up the store, hit a worker in the face with a food stamp machine and injured a police officer with broken glass in a fit of rage.
Last year, a worker was arrested for physically removing a customer from the store.
Attempts to contact the store for comment were unsuccessful Friday.
