GREENWICH VILLAGE — Italian eatery Da Silvano, a Village mainstay for more than four decades and a popular hangout for celebrities, is closed for good, according to news reports.

The New York Post reported that owner Silvano Marchetto said Tuesday night was their last night in business.

"We are closed forever," Marchetto told the Post.

Marchetto said he was forced to close due to the recent increases in minimum wage and the area's high rent increases — to $41,000 per month this year, far above the $500 per month he paid when he opened 41 years ago in 1975.

"I can't do it anymore," Marchetto told the Post.
