HARLEM — A woman was tricked into handing over $1,000 in iTunes gift cards by a caller who told her she'd won a $10,000 grant, the NYPD said.

The 69-year-old victim received a phone call from a man who gave his name as Alex Smith around noon on Dec. 5 and congratulated her on winning the grant, according to police.

He told her she could receive her grant once she purchased the gift cards and gave him the card numbers over the phone.

Police said the woman bought the gift cards and followed the caller’s instructions. However, once she gave him the numbers he stopped returning her calls and she never received the grant.

The victim reported the incident on Dec. 12.
