EAST HARLEM — A woman smashed up a bodega, hit a worker in the face with a food stamp machine and injured a police officer with broken glass in a fit of rage, the NYPD said.
Kareema Folks, 39, was in a bodega near 125th Street and Lexington Avenue on Nov. 23 around 1 a.m. when she got into an argument with a worker, picked up the EBT machine and threw it at the worker’s face, which bloodied his nose, police said.
Another customer apparently flagged down nearby NYPD officers as the altercation continued.
As one of the officers attempted to arrest Folks, she began flailing her arms and legs, according to the criminal complaint.
During the struggle, she smashed a glass case in the store which caused cuts to the bodega worker and the arresting officer’s finger, according to the criminal complaint and police report.
Folks also hit the officer with her hands, police said.
Police did not say what prompted the incident.
Folks pleaded guilty on Dec. 1 to assault charges and was sentenced to eight months jail.
Her attorney did not respond to a request for comment.
