The grimy wall of a Long Island City subway station was transformed this week after residents covered it in dozens of Post-it notes bearing encouraging messages.
The community art project sprung up Wednesday night on the Queens-bound entrance of the Vernon Boulevard-Jackson Avenue 7 train station in Hunters Point — similar to the "subway therapy" wall in Union Square, which allowed people to air their feelings about the presidential election.
The Long Island City version was organized by local residents, including a neighborhood Girl Scout troop, according to a Facebook event page for it.
"We the people of LIC are creating our very own post-it wall of positivity," the page reads. "Let's keep the vibes positive and hopeful!"
The Post-it messages ranged from poetic to humorous.
"One man does not define a country," one reads, alluding the to results of the election.
"Through blood sweat and tears the struggle continues," another notes says, while one implores straphangers to "Please be nice."
Others expressed gratitude.
"I'm thankful for our community," one person wrote. One Post-it included a child's drawing of a Thanksgiving turkey, while another featured a cartoon Pikachu.
"We need more newsstands," one note observed.
Organizers tacked baggies with markers and blank Post-its on the wall so people could contribute to the collection.
"It's very thoughtful, and refreshing," said Jean Chan, who lives nearby and was admiring the notes Friday. "It's not a sad wall anymore."
