EAST VILLAGE — A beloved neighborhood sock shop that shuttered earlier this year has now reopened a block away from its original storefront on St. Marks Place.

The Sock Man, which in January closed its doors at 27 St. Marks Place after 33 years, is now selling its colorful socks and hosiery out of a rainbow-hued storefront just a block away at 99 St. Marks Place.

The unveiling was announced on the store's Facebook page along with an offer of a special opening-day sale.

"We are proud to announce the return of the east village fixture that gentrification could not kill," reads the post, shared on Nov. 23. "We will be open (finally) on Black Friday! Mention this ad and receive ten percent off of your purchase."

Owner Marty Rosen, who first opened the shop in 1983, had been forced to close the original location when the landlord tripled his rent, EV Grieve reported at the time. He soon locked down the new storefront and announced a tentative reopening date of Aug. 1.

When reached by phone, Rosen told DNAinfo New York that the reopening simply took longer than he had anticipated, but he did not comment further.
