It's bound to be a rough holiday season for Fifth Avenue flagship stores like Tiffany & Co. and Bergdorf Goodman, with police checkpoints restricting pedestrian traffic near President-elect Donald Trump's residence at Trump Tower during his transition to the White House.
But the show — of some spectacular windows dressed for the winter holidays — must go on.

The elaborate displays are months in the making — nine in the case of Bergdorf's exotic installations.
At the Macy's in Herald Square, it takes a team of more than 250 graphic artists, sculptors, animators, carpenters, electricians and sound experts to bring its window scenes to life.

Macy's, 151 W. 34th St.
Our favorite Macy's window in Herald Square this year is the interactive pinball machine. Spectators can touch buttons on the glass to launch a ball toward three bumpers, representing the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Rockefeller Center skating rink and the New Year's Eve's ball drop in Times Square respectively.
The theme of the holiday windows at Bergdorf Goodmans' Fifth Avenue store is "Destination Extraordinary." The department store's senior director of visual presentation credits 12th-century Chinese watercolor mountainscapes, the post-Impressionist paintings of Henri Rousseau, and dioramas at the American Museum of Natural History as inspiration for his lush, green landscapes.
Lord & Taylor, 424 Fifth Ave.
In Lord & Taylor's "Enchanted Forest" holiday windows at its flagship Fifth Avenue store, bears co-exist with mice, foxes with raccoons — which is more than we can say about Americans who cast their ballot for Trump and those who cast theirs for Clinton right now.
Barneys New York, 660 Madison Ave.
The windows at Barneys New York's Madison Avenue flagship location feature everything from a 7-foot "Love Boat" to a 3D models of characters from "South Park."
Tiffany & Co., 727 Fifth Ave.
Excuse us while we drool over all the cakes on Tiffany's fake holiday spread. Okay, except for that raspberry jello casserole.
Bloomingdale's, 1000 Third Ave.
Bloomingdale's holiday windows showcase eight chandeliers, commissioned by the department store for display and charity auction. We wouldn't mind hanging Brooklyn artist Allison Eden's cephalopod-shaped light fixture in our living rooms.
Saks Fifth Avenue, 611 Fifth Ave.
We loved the Nutcracker-themed animated windows at Saks Fifth Avenue, starring a dreaming Clara and her favorite kitchen utensil.
