MIDTOWN — You might want to find something else to dip your pita chips in.
Popular hummus producer, Sabra, issued a recall after listeria was found in a manufacturing facility in Virginia, according to a company statement issued Saturday and a spokeswoman.
The voluntary recall is for most flavors, including classic hummus, olive, red pepper and garlic herb with a “best before” date up to and including Jan. 23, according to the company and FDA. Consumers can fill out an online form to receive a replacement coupon.
“We have invested heavily in technology and enhancing our processes and protocols, with guidance and input from external experts, to develop and put in place industry-leading food safety procedures, such as testing finished product from the production line every two minutes for pathogens including listeria,’ Sabra CEO Shali Shalit Shoval said in a statement.
“We want to reassure our consumers that our procedures include extensive finished product testing, and no products tested positive for contaminants. We are taking action because consumer safety is a top priority.”

“Listeria monocytogenes is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,” the FDA warned.
Healthy adults generally suffer short-term symptoms like fever and nausea.
