QUEENS — The necessary roof repairs at the Forest Hills Library, which were slated to begin on Friday, have been postponed until spring, library officials said.
“The reason for the delay is that the project has yet to receive the necessary approvals for the site safety plan, scaffolding, and the use of fuel-burning tools,” Queens Library spokeswoman Elisabeth de Bourbon said in an email to DNAinfo New York.
The repairs, which will force the branch, at 108-19 71st Ave., to close for about a month, will most likely begin in March or April, depending on the weather, de Bourbon said.
The $650,000 repair job will completely replace the library's roof, which has been leaking for years, according to officials.
The work, sponsored by Councilwoman Karen Koslowitz, will take several months, but the library will only be closed for the most disruptive phase of the project.
The Forest Hills branch is among the five busiest in the borough, serving nearly 315,000 people per year, according to the Queens Library.
