GOWANUS — A new restaurant helmed by a "Top Chef" alum is now open for coffee, doughnuts and Thanksgiving turkeys.
A&E Supply Co. on Fourth Avenue and 15th Street is serving Brooklyn Roasting Company coffee and espresso drinks and Dough Doughnuts from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays. (It opens at 8 a.m. on weekends.)
The business, run by partners Adam Harvey and Ennio Di Nino, will eventually expand to be a combination coffee shop, restaurant, "whole animal butcher" and cheese larder. Both Di Nino and Harvey have previous experience at Danny Meyer restaurants. Harvey competed on the competitive cooking TV series "Top Chef."
As of Monday, the coffee counter was up and running and the butcher was open for Thanksgiving turkey orders. The birds are from Stonewood Farm in Vermont and cost $6.99/lb. They promise "superior flavor and juiciness" and were "raised with lots of TLC and without antibiotics, hormones or animal byproduct feed," a spokeswoman for A&E Supply Co. said.
The butcher counter will be fully open in November and the restaurant is scheduled for a December opening. It will be a "farm to party" restaurant with a "casual small plates menu with a healthy-ish bent, focused on sourcing the best possible ingredients and letting them shine," a spokeswoman said.
“We’re looking to deliver to the community a set of services that they don't have and we want to do it awesomely,” Harvey told DNAinfo New York in January.
A&E Supply Co. is at 548 Fourth Ave. and 15th Street, a fast-growing corner where three new residential developments are underway.
