Here's Why We'll Never Forget NYC's Best Vines

Farewell, Vine.

Twitter announced Thursday that it would discontinue the mobile app, launched in 2013. Vine is known for its constantly looping, 6-second videos. Users could also subscribe to accounts, making being a "Vine star" a thing.

Stressed that users will have time to access and download their videos for posterity's sake, and Twitter will notify people about any changes being made to the app or website as the shutdown approaches.

In honor of the app that provided us with endless hours of looped entertainment, DNAinfo New York's staff has compiled our own ode to New York City-centric's Vines:

People used Vine to share some of New York City's biggest stories.

As well as some of the awkward ones.

It helped us capture the sights in our neighborhoods.

And the struggles all New Yorkers know so well.

Then there were the weird stunts like Splitting NYC.

And the Spring Street Subway Demon.

As well as some things we just can't explain.

But sometimes we watched them just because they were really, really cool.
