QUEENS — The Forest Hills Library will be closing for a month to repair its leaky roof, library officials said.
The branch, at 108-19 71st Ave., will shutter temporarily beginning Friday, Nov. 11 for a $650,000 repair job that would completely replace the library's roof, which has been leaking for years, according to officials.
The work, sponsored by Councilwoman Karen Koslowitz, is expected to be completed by next spring, but the library will only be closed for the most disruptive phase of the work.
"The remainder of the work can be completed while the library is open," Queens Library spokeswoman Elisabeth de Bourbon said.
The Forest Hills branch is among the five busiest in the borough, serving nearly 315,000 people and lending out about 389,000 items per year, according to the Queens Library. It also offers numerous free programs for kids and families as well as classes in ballroom dancing and film screenings.
While the branch is closed, mobile library service will be available at the site on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library is working to schedule an additional day for the mobile service, officials said.
The mobile library will be parked at the northeast corner of Queens Boulevard and 71st Avenue.
Locals can also attend the neighborhood's second branch — the North Forest Park Library at 98-27 Metropolitan Ave.
