TIMES SQUARE — Visitors can walk through a “human kaleidoscope” in the Crossroads of the World for the next month.
On Tuesday, Times Square Arts and the Cuban Artists Fund unveiled Cuban artist Rachel Valdés Camejo’s installation, “The Beginning of the End," in a pedestrian plaza between West 46th and 47th streets.
The mirrored corridor “pulls in the sky to draw it underneath your feet, wrapping Times Square completely around your body,” Times Square Arts director Sherry Dobbin said.
“The natural skyscape, the electronic billboards and the office buildings combine in a human kaleidoscope, in which each twist of your body brings about new perspectives."
Visitors to Times Square have until Nov. 21 to pass through the installation.
At the unveiling Tuesday, Valdés Camejo said the piece was about “perception and observation.”
“I love to play with optical illusion, and I love to play with perspective,” she said. “I’m really glad to stand here today sharing this.”
