ASTORIA — A Food Emporium supermarket is coming to the corner of Broadway and 29th Street, at the site of the old C-Town store that closed last year to make way for new apartments.

A sign hanging on the fence of the construction site at 29-10 Broadway — where a developer is building a five-story property with 64 apartments — says the "brand new supermarket" will open in 2017 and offer free parking.

It appears that the new market will be run by the same owners as the old C-Town that had been there before, as the sign says it will be "owned and operated by the same family for 30 years."

"We are coming back as a Food Emporium!" a post on the former C-Town's Facebook page reads. "Same family and familiar faces."

Key Foods, which took over The Food Emporium brand last year, did not immediately return messages seeking comment on the plans.

Jestam Realty LLC, which is developing the site, did not return a call and email seeking comment.

The developer started work last year to turn the one-story supermarket into a five-story building with commercial space on the ground floor and apartments above, according to Department of Buildings records.

The C-Town that had been at the site for decades shuttered shortly before construction began, though its owners at the time promised to return with a new supermarket once the new building opened.

Shoppers at the time told DNAinfo they were "devastated" to lose the market, which is right near the N/Q train line and had its own parking lot, and hoped it would return when construction wrapped up.
