BROOKLYN — The Sutter Avenue-Rutland Road and Junius Street 3 train stations will close for five months starting Oct. 3 for rehabilitation work, the MTA announced.
The Brownsville and East New York stations will get new lighting, platforms and upgraded communication systems as part of the $88 million capital project, officials said.
Workers will also install new tactile warning strips at the platform edge and new stairway guardrails.
“We must perform this vital work to reverse decades of wear and improve these stations to the standards our customers expect,” said Wynton Habersham, Senior Vice President, Department of Subways, in a statement.
“To perform this work safely and efficiently, the stations must be taken out of service. When these structural repairs and aesthetic upgrades are completed, we are confident our customers will appreciate the results of this work.”
Trains will start skipping the stations at 5 a.m. on Oct. 3. Free shuttle buses will provide alternate service.
For service to/from Sutter Avenue, free shuttle buses will operate between Sutter Avenue and the Crown Heights-Utica Avenue station at all times.
For service to/from Junius Street, free shuttle buses will run between the Junius Street station and the Rockaway Avenue station at all times.
