New Yorkers who stumble upon aerial snapshots of Manhattan decades from now may puzzle over a series of horizontal lines that fan out suddenly at 10th Avenue — extending to the West Side Highway like bristles on a broom (seen in the upper-left-hand corner of the photo).
In 10 years, Manhattan between West 30th and 34th streets from 10th to 12th avenues will look nothing like those images.
By 2024, the more than 17 million square feet of new office and residential towers, restaurants, shops and public space planned for they Hudson Yards will have replaced what was once an industrial rail yard.
But a set of train tracks will still stretch toward the Hudson River in photographs — immortalizing a West Side where 21st century development hadn’t yet made its mark.
