Man Flees After Scaring Kew Gardens Resident During Burglary Attempt: NYPD

By Ewa Kern-Jedrychowska | August 25, 2016 5:48pm

QUEENS — Police are looking for a man who they said broke into a Kew Gardens home Tuesday, terrifying the owner who was inside the house at the time, authorities said.

The intruder broke into the home on Grenfell Street near Onslow Place around 3 p.m. after cutting through screen doors in the back of the house, officials said.

The home owner, a 51-year-old woman, was on the phone and did not hear the man in the house until he walked into her room upstairs, police said.

The suspect fled without taking anything, according to the NYPD.

Police canvassed the neighborhood, checking surveillance cameras and looking for clues.

Authorities described the suspect as being 5-feet-9 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds with black hair.

The Kew Gardens Civic Association sent out an email to local residents Wednesday reminding them to exercise caution and also not to let anyone into their home without checking their ID.
