Man Sleeping on 1 Train Attacked and Robbed, Police Say

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — A 19-year-old straphanger sleeping on a northbound 1 train early Tuesday morning was attacked and robbed by two men near the 181st Street station, police said.

The attackers, who police said were between 20 to 25 years-old, punched and kicked the victim in the face, before snatching his cell phone from his hand inside the northbound train at approximately 4:20 a.m.

The men then ran out the 181st St. station, police said, leaving the victim behind with bruises on the face. Police said the victim was later taken to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in stable condition.

One of the men, police confirmed, was last seen wearing a light colored baseball cap, black T-shirt and camouflage shorts with black boots and a red backpack. The other man was wearing a two-toned, long-sleeve shirt with blue jeans and white sneakers.
