Man Who Robbed Bank While Wearing a Dress Turns Self In, Officials Say

By Nicholas Rizzi | August 3, 2016 2:54pm

STAPLETON — A man in a dress allegedly robbed a Staten Island bank with a water gun then stripped down to a pair of shorts in a nearby deli and fled before turning himself in to police, officials said.

Jordan Wise, 24, turned himself into police on Sunday for allegedly robbing a Stapleton bank of $780 at gunpoint last week, according to a criminal complaint filed in Brooklyn Federal Court.

On July 25, Wise walked into the Santander bank at 81 Water St. wearing a dress, silver high-heeled shoes, a large black sequined hat and sunglasses at 1:25 p.m., according to court papers.

When Wise approached the window, he took out a silver handgun — which he later told police was a water gun — and told the teller to "give me the money."

Wise got $780 in cash from the teller then left the bank and entered a bodega at 99 Water St. He went to the back of the store and changed into jean shorts, white athletic shoes with no shirt on and threw away his other clothes, according to his complaint.

Police later found the dress, the hat, sunglasses and a white bra in a black plastic bag in a public garbage can near the deli.

On Sunday, Wise turned himself into the NYPD's 120th Precinct and was held without bail at his arraignment in Brooklyn Federal Court.

"It is my conclusion that the person seen on the video robbing the bank and the defendant are one and the same person," NYPD Officer Michael Gildea wrote in the complaint.

His lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
