CRIME BLOTTER: Gowanus Whole Foods Employee Has Phone Stolen While Working

GOWANUS — An employee at the Whole Foods on Third Avenue and Third Street had her cellphone stolen while she was working recently, according to a police report.

The Metro PCS cellphone was stolen from the store's employee locker room July 22 about 2 p.m., according to the report.

Other recent crimes in the 78th Precinct include the following, with details from police reports:

A 50-year-old woman was arrested after stealing $468 in sheets and luggage from the Target at the Atlantic Terminal Mall on Flatbush and Atlantic Avenue. The thief took three sets of Fieldcrest sheets and one piece of Swiss Gear luggage from the store July 24.

A 45-year-old woman was arrested July 24 after she hit a 55-year-old woman with a wooden stick on her right arm while the victim was listening to music at Grand Army Plaza and Flatbush Avenue.

A "hot spot" device on loan from Brooklyn Public Library was stolen at 4:30 p.m. on July 14 when the woman who borrowed it was sitting with the device outside the library.

A man stole four pairs of shoes worth a total of $149 from a Payless shoe store on Fifth Avenue and 10th Street at 5:30 p.m. on July 20.

Someone smashed the rear window of a cab parked at Seventh Street and Fourth Avenue at 5:25 a.m. on July 24.

A folder containing papers was stolen from the counter of Lucky 7 deli on Fourth Avenue and 11th Street on July 18 at 12:05 a.m.

A black Trek Allant bike with grey and green stripes was stolen from Eighth Avenue and Third Street on July 16 around 6:15 a.m.

Overall, major crime in the 78th Precinct has dropped 13 percent this year compared to the same period in 2015, according to the most recent statistics from the NYPD. There were 429 major crimes reported between Jan. 1 and July 17, 2016, and 492 major crimes during that period in 2015.
