PROSPECT HEIGHTS — Community leaders, including Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, held a candlelight vigil Monday night in the wake of recent police-involved fatal shootings and the murder of five Dallas officers during a protest last week.
Dozens of people gathered at Grand Army Plaza at 7 p.m. to mourn the loss of the officers last week, as well as black men killed by police across the country, including the shooting of Delrawn Small in Brooklyn on July 4.
One woman said she hoped faith could help mend wounds.
Kristen Petit, 41, was attending with the group Moms Demand Action.
"It's our kids in the line of fire," Petit told DNAinfo New York.
Just before the vigil was held, police officers fatally shot a man on Stillwell Avenue in Gravesend during what police believe to be an interrupted robbery, according to the NYPD and law enforcement sources.
