SUNSET PARK — Red Hook's popular Hometown Bar-B-Que will open a commissary kitchen in Sunset Park next year, its owner said Monday.

The kitchen will handle the restaurant's catering and side dishes, said pitmaster Billy Durney, who opened the restaurant at 454 Van Brunt St. near Fairway Market in 2013.

The space, which will also feature a 100-seat catering and event hall, will be part of Industry City's retail expansion. The owners of the sprawling complex have invested $8 million into constructing a public retail corridor that will run through nine Industry City buildings, Crain's New York Business reports.

Hometown will also run a small shop that will sell some lunchtime BBQ eats, Durney said.

The kitchen will likely be open by Feb. 1, 2017, he said.

Durney is also planning to open a new fried chicken eatery at 329 Van Brunt St. in Red Hook.
