BROOKLYN NAVY YARD — The city’s first Wegmans grocery store will open at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in a five-story building with 246 parking spaces, records show.
Steiner NYC, the developer behind Steiner Studios at the Navy Yard, filed plans to build the 248,489-square-foot grocery store at 21 Flushing Ave. Tuesday, Department of Buildings records show.
The supermarket will be on the first floor, which will have a mezzanine level with a seating area, documents show. The remaining floors will be dedicated to light industrial space and mechanical rooms.
The building is being designed by S9 Architecture.
The 104,146-square-foot parking lot would hold 246 spaces, records show.
The Rochester-based supermarket chain announced in May that it would open its first New York City location. The store is set to open in 2018, according to a Steiner NYC spokeswoman.
The family-owned store — which has locations in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, upstate New York and Massachusetts — will be located on Admiral’s Row, the site of several run-down Civil War-era homes being redeveloped by Steiner.
Last week, Steiner filed plans for three new retail buildings along Admiral’s Row at 1 Flushing Ave., 3 Flushing Ave. and 25 Navy St., according to The Real Deal, who first reported the story.
The tenants have not yet been announced.
Steiner will have a 96-year lease on the site, according to The Real Deal.
A spokeswoman for Steiner NYC declined to comment Wednesday.
