HUNTS POINT — Police have arrested the suspect in a fatal South Bronx shooting from early May, which they say stemmed from a case of mistaken identity.

Frederick Jones, 26, has been charged with killing 37-year-old Jose Ingles, who was fatally shot around 6 a.m. on May 4, police said.

Ingles had pulled up to a bodega by Faile Street and Spofford Avenue with a woman in his car, who got out and went into the store, according to the NYPD.

Two men then approached his car on either side, and the man on the driver's side shot Ingles, police said.

Jones had gotten in an argument with someone earlier in the evening who was in a vehicle that looked similar to the one Ingles was in when the gunman found him, and Jones attacked Ingles thinking he was that person, according to the NYPD.

He has been charged with murder and criminal possession of a firearm and was previously convicted for criminal sale of a controlled substance. He had not been arraigned as of Tuesday afternoon.

Police are still searching for the other man who approached Ingles' car and the woman who got out of his car.
