YORKVILLE — A First Avenue Asian eatery was shut down by the Health Department this week for its unsanitary conditions.

Oriental Cafe/Sunny, at 1580 First Ave., near East 82nd Street, was forced to shutter for having flies, failing to have a sink for handwashing and for keeping food at unsafe temperatures, according to city records.

The eatery, which serves a variety of Chinese and Japanese dishes, lacked a sink, soap and hand-drying device in both its kitchen and bathroom, records show.

Sunny was hit with 104 violations total.

A woman who answered the restaurant's phone on Thursday said the cafe is still doing delivery but its dining room is closed and it is unclear when it will open again.

Its menu includes pork dumplings, lo mein, crab rangoon and sushi.

She did not comment on the violations except to say that there is work being done in the kitchen and that the closure had to do with an issue with the building and not just the restaurant.
